This course explains Cisco's design philosophy for creating scalable campus networks, including Cisco's old three-layer hierarchical model and Cisco's new Enterprise Model design. The different types of Layer 2 and Layer 3 solutions, including the different Ethernet media types, are compared and contrasted. This course also explains how to put a basic configuration on a Catalyst switch, and defines and explains VLANs, trunking, and the Virtual Trunk Protocol (VTP). All three of these areas play an integral part in the setup of VLANs in a network.
Objectives:
After completing this course, students will be able to:
- Use the Enterprise Composite Network Model to design networks
- Compare and contrast Layer 2 switches, routers, Layer 3 switches, and multilayer switches
- Compare and contrast Ethernet technologies
- Compare, configure, and troubleshoot dynamic and static VLANs and ISL trunking protocols
